The Tilak College Katni was established on 04.08.1958 and was taken over on 07.02.1971 and since then postgraduate classes were also started in the college. There are 04 posts in the department and the faculty members working against these posts. A minor research project was completed jointly by Dr. K.P. Shukla (now Retd.), Shri K. J. Sinha and Smt. Laxmi Nayak in 2014. A one-day workshop of self-help groups was also organized by the department in March 2014. Shri Ajay Kuraria who had Completed his Post Graduation from this College, has cleared his NET examination is now teaching. In the department as a regular Asstt. Prof. after being selected through MPPSC. He is also pursuing his Ph.D. at present. Shri Sunil Tripathi who has completed his higher education from Allahabad University, has qualified the NET examination and is now a regular faculty member, after being selected through the MPPSC. Shri Sunil Tripathi who has been a resource person in the National Seminar Organized in Allahabad. He has also been the Chief Speaker in the special lecture organized by the MIMS University Jaipur. At present he is pursuing his Ph.D. Dr. Dheeraj Khare has recently received his Ph.D. Degree from the Banaras Hindu University Banaras and is engaged in research related activities. All the faculty members guide the students for Project Work, Competitive Examination like Net and other state Govt. Examination. They are always willing to help and support the students for research related activities also. Priyanka Dubey a former student of the department, was the University topper of the Year (2014) and was awarded four gold medals during the convocation ceremony at present she is working as a lecturer in a Govt. School of the district. The Ph.D. viva of Allahabad University of Economics department was shown to the students through video colling so the students get an idea. Shri Sunil Tripathi delivered a lecture on “G-20 :Meing Bharat ki adhyakshtaevamAmritkaal” in the Nehru Yuva Kendra on 23rd Feb. 2023.
